My name is Katerina and I am a flight attendant
Hi, my name is Katerina. I grew up in a small town in the Czech Republic. When all my friends knew what they'd like to do when they grow up, I still had no idea. I only knew, that I don't want to stay in that small town in the Czech Republic. So I moved to Prague, the capital city, and I started the college. I got my bachelor's in insurance and later master's in finance and business evaluation. I had several jobs during and after my studies. I was a tour guide in Greek island, I was a corporate event planner. And then life brought me to the United States.
So there I was, with a fresh Green Card in my hands, thinking what the next step could be. I knew, that I want to be going back to my family as much as I could and I also knew, that flight attendants can fly for free. As bad as it looks, traveling for free and the flexibility were my motivation.
In paper, I was a good candidate. I can somehow speak 5 different languages, and if I enhance my work experience a little, I can say that I have several years of customer service experience. And I love people and I love to travel. I am ready to become a flight attendant.
It's August 2014 and Delta had just announced, that they're hiring flight attendants. I'm beyond excited. Delta flies to Prague and I'm sure they're just excited as I am, that Katerina is going to be their new team member. As days pass by, more airlines open their flight attendant positions. US Airways, United, American, Virgin America, I apply for all and already imagine myself at exotic layovers, sipping cocktail under the palm tree, while getting paid.
Few days later, airlines started contacting me. Congratulations, we chose you to the next round, the video interview. I imagined, I'd talk to somebody on Skype, but it was nothing like that. I did a lot of research and was well prepared, but the real experience exceeded all my expectations.
