How Should Men Dress For the Flight Attendant Interview?
Congratulations, you made it to the next step, you got the invitation to the flight attendant interview! You practiced the questions, you feel confident and so ready! But stop, did you pay enough attention to what you’re going to wear? The fact is, appearance is extremely important for flight attendants. In some Asian airlines, flight attendant interview is close to a beauty pageant, with only one size of uniform to fit is. The criteria in the USA are far less strict, but you still have to look professional and neat.
Do I want to stand out?
When it comes to men, there’s not much space for creativity. Wear a dark suit (navy or dark grey, black is better for formal events), nice tie, belt and shoes in matching colors. Be critical to yourself and make sure the suit you have really fits you well. Maybe it’s a time for a new one. Always take your suit to the dry cleaners. When you are standing, keep the lowest button open. When you sit down, unbutton your jacket. Always keep the jacket on, no matter how hot it is.
My opinion is, don’t be too creative, when it comes to job interview, especially, when you apply to the major airlines (Delta, United, American Airlines). I’ve heard of a guy, who came dressed all in yellow for Spirit interview and got the job. But I believe it’s better to impress with your experience and personality, rather than extravagant clothes. So, I highly recommend white or light color shirt, elegant tie and a professional watch. The shirt should have long sleeves, that exceed the length of the jacket a little bit. What’s the perfect length of the tie? It should be touching the top of your belt. You can upgrade your look by wearing cufflinks and a pocket square matching the tie.
Don’t underestimate the power of shoes
Pay a lot of attention to details! Did you know, that women tend to judge men by looking at their shoes? Good quality, unworn, polished leather shoes are essential. Black shoes are always perfect, but if you want to stand out a little, you can also go with brown, that pairs great with navy slim fit suit.
Nobody wants to see your hairy legs
Today’s fashion trends call for funny colorful socks worn with suit. But hold those for more casual events and remember, you’re going for a job interview. Wear simple black socks and make sure they are high enough, so nobody would have to look at your hairy calves when you sit down.
Also, remember, that you’ll have to carry couple of documents with you. Nice attaché bag in black or brown leather will do a great job and complete your look.
If you wear earrings or any visible body piercings, take them off. Some airlines allow men to wear earrings, but it’s better not to wear them for the interview. I’d limit the jewelry to a watch and a wedding ring, if you wear one.
Complete your look by a professional grooming. Go to the hairdresser and have your hair cut. Have you ever been to the manicure? Now it’s a perfect time to go. Neat nails and hands are an important detail that is better not to underestimate. Your face will be the best shaved, but it’s ok, if you’re used to wear mustache or beard. Just make sure it’s trimmed.
Now you’re all set to go and get the job.
